Aegis

The Aegis class Missile Frigate plays a pivotal role of defending the UEC fleet from the threat of strike craft and anti-ship missiles. Hunter hives and nests used to order it’s drones to stay away from these ships at all cost to avoid a catastrophic reduction in drone population.

Their name is derived from their ability to create an almost solid wall of flak fire.

Modular design

All UEC frigates share the same chassis. In fact, they are exactly the same ship with different configurations. This standardization allows easy maintenance and production. That, in turn, allows the UEC to build and sustain massive fleet of frigates.

While a single frigate is not particularly powerful, the right combinations of frigates serve as a backbone of any deep space operations.

Ejection Bridge

A large number of frigates are destroyed in any battle. In order to ensure the survival of the crew at the destruction of the frigate, naval engineers have taken drastic safety measures. In fact, the entire bridge is a lifeboat that can blast away from main body of the frigate if necessary. On top of that, the bridge itself contains a number of escape pods if the ejected bridge is being targeted. The entire crew of a frigate works on the bridge to ensure safe escape in the event of a ship-wide emergency.

“Abandon ship” has become very familiar to most frigate captains.

Cluster missiles

This is the one system that makes the aegis stand out from the other configurations.
The cluster is an integrated ordinance, navigation and guidance package that can function independently from the Aegis. Each of these clusters contains 24 Kinetic Burst missiles, and even one of these missiles can devastate an entire squadron of fighters. The cluster can work in two ways.

It is capable of firing missiles while attached to the Aegis, by receiving a direct command from the ship.
The cluster can also detach from the ship and operate on pre-programmed instructions or artificial intelligence. Seasoned captains also find the third use for these clusters: Using them as torpedoes against other capital ships.
